Captain’s Log
The crew managed to finally get out snowboarding together, and excitement for those first tracks of the season was high. The snow was fresh and the crew was frosty. Both members were in a delightful mood, angry that their commanding officers were forcing them to enjoy a beautiful morning on the hill. They really have made complaining an art form and I’m really impressed at how they can set the mood long before we’ve reached our destination. This time they started the evening before, rolling eyes and muttering under their breath, ensuring we knew how much they were not on board with our plans. I hate to admit it but for once I wish I had given in to their complaints and just stayed home.
The morning started out rough, I realized early on that I forgot to order new contacts and was forced to wear my bulky glasses under my goggles. This oversight was hugely frustrating as my glasses fog up all the time and never really sit well when worn snowboarding. Then as I was putting on my snow pants I managed to blow the zipper. It appears all those sugar cookies I ate over the holiday have caught up with me. Fortunately, I was able to Macgyver the situation and make do so I carried on until I realized that I forgot to sharpen my edges and there was a fair amount of ice under the fresh snow. I ate shit, HARD.
Despite my protests, the boys sent me to emerge to be checked out. Good news nothing serious, bad news my ego is seriously bruised and I am sofa bound until the swelling in my knee comes down.
As I’m writing this it’s been approximately been 2 hours since I’ve been laid up on the sofa and I'm already stir crazy. The Duchess has been delegated to laundry duty and is not thrilled with my micromanaging. Number 2 is being great, refilling my wine glass and fetching me an ice pack every 30 minutes but may get annoyed with my constant need to move around. I am the worst patient, I cannot sit still on the best of days, so this should be interesting.
Relic, never one to be outdone, decided to level up the game and tested positive for Covid. So it appears this crew is going to be spending a whole lot of time together over the next couple of weeks. Because why not, there’s no school, I can’t snowboard, so we might as well turn this week into an episode of Survivor.
I’m placing my bets now, the Duchess is for sure going to be the winner and will most likely toss everyone but the Powder Monkey overboard before the week is over.
Happy Hunger Games, may the odds ever be in your favour.
Friends are here, booze, books, a new family, whatever you need!
Sounds like my home minus the Covid - for now - except I don’t serve the injured like he would hope.
